The sunset....

So today is my husband's birthday, and earlier this week he decided he wanted to go camping for just one night for his birthday. So last night we packed our bags and headed northward to Antelope Island. We got a late start, but it was all worth it in the end.
We actually forgot a few quite essential things, geniuses that we are. Here's a list of the things we forgot:
- Eating utensils
- Pillows
- Jackets
- Shovel (for the fire pit, maybe not a necessity, but certainly nice to have)
- Hand sanitizer.
Luckily, my wonderful husband fashioned some eating utensils out of tin foil so we could eat our meal, and it wasn't too cold so we didn't necessarily need our jackets but the bay flies and brine flies were out en force so jackets with hoods are definitely a must have next time around! And technically I had a pillow... Yes, I used my husband as a pillow (and it was just as good as a real pillow:). And, in lieu of hand sanitizer, I had the genius idea of bringing cleaning wipes (I can remember wipes but no pillows, jackets, or sanitizer?!) So all was well. Luckily it was only for one night, had it been for a week we definitely would have been in trouble.
But, as I said before, it was definitely worth it. We caught some amazing shots, despite the evile flies and mosquitoes (and yes that's evil with an 'e', makes it sound more dastardly, no?). Miraculously we were up at sunrise to take some more shots. There were also jackrabbits galore, one decided to race my car (we clocked it in at 20 mph before we took the lead). The Great Salt Lake was incredibly beautiful, at times it was like glass! If you ever want a quick getaway, pick up a tent or trailer and head off to Antelope Island, the small camping fee of 13 dollars was worth every penny and more. The photo opportunities were nice, but mostly it was wonderful to get away from responsibilities, etc, if only for a few hours. I think that's one of my favorite things about Utah, you don't have to go too far to get away from it all.
